The Makalu to Everest via Sherpani Col Expedition is one of Nepal’s most serious non-8000m journeys – a technical, high-altitude crossing that links the remote Makalu–Barun region with the Khumbu via Sherpani Col, West Col and Amphu Lapcha. This is not a standard trekking route; it is an expedition that combines steep passes, glacier travel, fixed lines and full camping support in some of the wildest terrain in the Himalaya.
The journey starts like the Makalu Base Camp Trek, passing through Rai and Sherpa communities, dense forests and the immense Barun Valley below Makalu’s south face. Beyond Makalu Base Camp, the character changes completely: you move onto glaciated terrain, establish high camps, cross complex cols at over 6,000 m and finally descend into the Imja and Khumbu valleys near Chukhung.
Eagle Trail Escapes runs this itinerary for highly motivated, experienced mountain guests who understand what a technical high route means in terms of risk, commitment and reward. We work with small teams, highly experienced local climbing guides and carefully designed acclimatization. We also stay true to our ethos: using locally run teahouses where they exist, partnering with community porters and keeping our environmental footprint as low as possible.
