The Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek (Pangpema) takes you into one of Nepal’s most remote and spectacular corners, on the northern side of the world’s third-highest mountain. This route follows the Tamor and Ghunsa valleys from lush forests and Limbu villages up to high glacial basins, yak pastures and the stark moraine world below Kanchenjunga and its satellite peaks.
Compared to more famous routes in Everest or Annapurna, the Kanchenjunga North trail sees only a fraction of visitors each year. That means quieter lodges, intact village life and a feeling of genuine Himalayan expedition rather than mass tourism. You walk on old trade paths used by local communities, overnight in simple teahouses and homestays, and gradually climb to the high settlement of Ghunsa, Kambachen and finally Lhonak, the launching point for Pangpema at Kanchenjunga’s north base camp.
Eagle Trail Escapes designs this itinerary with a strong focus on safety, acclimatization and responsible tourism. We prioritize local lodge owners and family-run services wherever possible, support waste-minimizing practices on the trail, and keep group sizes small so that visitors remain guests in fragile mountain communities, not a crowd passing through.
